So Long “The Love Channel Show”

October 26, 2016 is the Last Radio Show

love-channel-showMany different feelings came up when I decided to end my radio show, which I have been doing since July of 2012. My decision was NOT because of issues with Rev. Tiffany White owner of Goldylocks Production. Instead, this was what held me back for months because I just love Tiffany and will miss our weekly messaging during the show. By the way, if you’re looking for someone to host your radio show, I highly recommend Goldylocks Production.

Back in 2012, I started hosting my radio show with Psychics Gone Wild and for six months or so I did another educational show for them before they dropped the second network. During my time with Psychics Gone Wild, I attempted to do a show with Hey Z Radio. And I mean attempted! You see, to broadcast shows with them, I had to run their complicated switchboard on my computer; I would be a nervous wreck trying to run the switchboard and host a show. Blogtalk Radio has their switchboard on their website and is very easy to do; therefore, I ran another show by myself there. Eventually my Angels and Guides guided me to leave Psychics Gone Wild and a few months later pushed me towards True Psychic Network. I continued to do two shows for a while longer; eventually I got tired of doing everything by myself and stopped my own show. True Psychic Network folded, I followed Tiffany to her own production company, and I have been there for over a year. Whew, that’s some radio show history!

Here are the pros of doing radio:

  • Interviewing interesting guests.
  • Educating my listeners.
  • Choosing topics that I’m passionate about.
  • Meeting quality radio show callers.
  • Learning from my guests and callers.
  • Improving my speaking skills.
  • Marketing my business in an educational way.
  • Lastly, my shows are archived to be listened to again and again.

Here are the cons of doing radio:

  • A guest that barely talks during an interview.
  • The guest who takes over my show and I can’t get a word in.
  • Guests who are a no show, thankfully that only happened once.
  • A caller (not a guest) who tries to hijack the radio show or promotes their business. Really? Don’t expect to be a guest on my show ever!
  • Psychic whores who call as many shows as possible on Blogtalk Radio for free readings. This is the reason I allow only one question from a caller per show.
  • Guests who are difficult about giving me their information – doesn’t email it in, tells me to take it off their website, sends me a very long bio when I asked for one paragraph, and I even wrote a bio for a guest who didn’t have one because they were afraid to write it.
  • Blogtalk Radio moments are what we call technical difficulties which happens occasionally; especially around Mercury Retrograde. Once I was running the switchboard while hosting a show and they dropped my phone line. Luckily, my guest knew what was going on and covered for me until I was able to get back on the show.

Would you like to know why I am ending my show? Honestly, I am burnt out on it. Now, I understand how TV stars feel when they are doing the same role on a show for years; they love it, but get bored of doing it over and over. When you let go of the old, it allows the new to come in. I’m excited to see what God has in store for me! You can listen to my last four shows (I’m taking  October 5th off) at The Love Channel Show on Goldylocks Production.

Endings and New Beginnings

Have you ever felt that changes were coming but did not know how it would happen? It can be scary and exciting at the same time. This is what happened to me and I just had to share it!

For the last five months I have been hemming and hawing about what to do about one of my two radio shows. Should I keep it or let my Tuesday evening show go? The Love Channel Show on Tuesday evenings on Blogtalk Radio is all about educating the public and interviewing wonderful guests. I was getting much more archive listens than live listeners. Decisions, Decisions, how us Libras dislike making decisions!

A couple of weeks ago I felt the push to let the live show go and possibly do podcasts in 2015. I am keeping my Wednesday, 3pm Eastern, The Love Channel Show with True Psychic Networks Pamela-Cummins-TPN-Radio-300x232on Blogtalk Radio. I do free psychic readings mixed in with a topic for each show. That felt right to me, and for some reason I didn’t book the November 4th evening show. I wonder if it was because of Mercury Retrograde and maybe one of my shows would have issues that would need to be rescheduled for that day.

One of my friends has been pushing me to do outside work for quite some time and when I moved to Jacksonville, NC I decided to give it a go. I spent a day with my niece last February in Wilmington, NC, dropping off a resume with a business card to a number of places. At Harmony Yoga I said to my niece, “This place feels familiar. I think I been here before or dreamed about it.” I didn’t get a response from anyone. So I decided to send out a bunch of emails to local businesses in Jacksonville instead of stopping by. Again, nothing happened. So I let the idea of working outside of my home go.

In September I got a reading from Belle Salibsury and she told me to look for outside work. That there was a place that I would fit right in. I thought to myself, “Been there, done that, not going to do it again.” Besides, I love working from home in my jammies. Although there was another part of me that had cabin fever and wanted to do in-person sessions.

A few days after I made the choice to let go of my radio show, I got the message from my guides to look for outside work. I said to God, “OK God, if you want me to work outside of the house, bring it to me because I’m not going to look for it.”

The next day I got an email from the owner of Harmony Yoga bg_iid5in Wilmington to get in touch with her regarding an office share with another intuitive. When I called, she said to me, “I walked into my office, put my coffee cup down, and coffee spilled onto your card. I thought to myself, “Why don’t I get in touch with her about the office?” How cool is that, God in action!

The reason I did not book a show on November 4th was that will be my first day at my new office! I do have a commitment for a guest on November 11th so I will miss a Tuesday at the office. My last show will be Monday, November 17th, and the topic is Gratitude.

If you are ever in Wilmington, NC, please stop by and see me at my office. I am excited about my new beginnings there. I hope by sharing my experience, it will help you to trust and go with the flow!

You Got Booked as a Guest on a Radio Show, Now What?

now live I love being a radio show host. I host The Love Channel Show every Tuesday at 8pm ET. It is a great way for guests to educate the listeners and get their messages out to the world. I had some wonderful guests who will be invited again and again. Yet others have been wonderful teachers of what not to do as a guest. I take those lessons to use on my own radio show and for radio shows that I am a guest on.

Here are some tips I would like to pass on:

  • Send your short bio, photo, and questions ASAP to the host. This makes their job easier and saves them time by not having to research around for your information, pictures, or edit long bios.

  • It helps the host if you send five or more questions related to the radio show’s topic. The host still needs to do research on you and come up with other questions. But having some questions helps the host with this.

  • Listeners are there to learn about the topic not what you are selling. Of course, you will be letting them know about your business. But listeners will get bored when it is all about promoting yourself. Instead, impress them with your knowledge of the topic so they will want to do business with you.

  • If you cannot make the radio show, let the host know immediately! This gives them time to plan the next radio show. Here are some examples, one guest failed to respond to my numerous confirmation requests. Another time, a company representative responded to my confirmation by apologizing for one of the owners having an emergency, without offering someone else to come on the radio show. Yet, another guest notified me as soon as she got warnings of an unexpected storm heading her way. She apologized but didn’t want to take the chance of being on air in case there was a power outage and sent another apology the next day. Guess which one was invited back to my radio show? The last one of course!

  • This one is a real pet peeve of mine. When you are a guest, please market the radio show you are going on to. For Tweeps on Twitter – tweet it before, during, and after going on air. If you have a Facebook account and business page post it at least once. And send it out to your mailing list. Hosts of radio shows are doing a lot of marketing for you. This should benefit both parties, not just you. My radio shows that were marketed through both sides got more live and archives listens. Plus it is good karma.

  • Guest should be polite and not criticize the host. Yes, it has happened.

  • This is a reminder that you are the guest of a radio show, it is not your show. Please do not take over the radio show.

  • When you come on the radio show expect to be open and talk about yourself, the topic, your services, or book. It is very difficult hosting a radio show when getting a response from a guest is like pulling a crocodile’s teeth. One time I asked an author a question regarding her book. Her response was they should go out and buy the book! This author needs to read number three of this blog. This would have been the perfect time to give some juicy tidbits to entice the audience so they would buy her book.

  • Have fun and be yourself! Unless it is a very serious topic. At all times be as positive as you can and enjoy your time on the radio show.

Hmm, giggle, I wonder if I will ever have another guest after writing that! I am sure many radio show hosts will thank me. I am always looking for guests who specialize in healing, personal growth, self-help, spirituality, relationships, and of course love. Please email me at love@successfulrel.com and I will get in touch with you if it feels like a match. If it is not a match, there are always plenty of opportunities elsewhere, and I hope my input helps you be a dream guest for any host!
